Muslim holiday declared in the Philippines for Isra Wal Mi’raj

The Philippine government has declared January 27, 2025, a special holiday for Muslims in observance of Isra Wal Mi’raj, a significant event in Islam marking the Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin clarified that the holiday applies only to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other Muslim communities recognized under the Muslim Code.

While not a nationwide holiday, Bersamin assured that Muslims in other areas, such as Metro Manila, are excused from work.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his well-wishes to Filipino Muslims, urging them to embrace diligence and perseverance as they commemorate this sacred occasion.
