Iraq: Remains of 31 victims executed by ISIS discovered in Tal Afar during school renovation

During the renovation of a school, the remains of 31 victims were recovered from a mass grave in Tal Afar, western Nineveh, Iraq, as announced by the Mass Graves Directorate on Monday.

The grave, discovered during the restoration of a government school, contained the remains of people executed by ISIS after it seized control of Tal Afar and Sinjar.

Among the 1,200 Turkmen victims were many women and children. The remains, some incomplete, have been transferred to Baghdad’s forensic department for DNA testing to match them with relatives.

Additionally, new bodies were found in another mass grave at Alou Antar, north of Tal Afar, where four excavation phases have been completed since May, uncovering seven more bodies.
