SRW expresses satisfaction over release of detainees in Bahraini prisons

Shia Rights Watch (SRW), an international pro-Shia rights organization, has praised the Bahraini authorities’ initiative to release a number of Shia detainees held on political charges, expressing its satisfaction with this step and calling for the release of all remaining detainees.

In a statement received by Shia Waves Agency, SRW confirmed that it had reviewed official reports indicating the release of one hundred political detainees by Bahraini authorities, in addition to three hundred others held on criminal charges.

The organization noted that human rights sources have confirmed that more than one thousand Shia political detainees remain in custody, facing various severe sentences due to their human rights and political activities, stressing that this situation poses a significant humanitarian and legal challenge for the Bahraini authorities concerning human rights issues.

The rights group expressed hope that this initiative will be repeated to release the remaining political detainees and to work towards closing this issue permanently, in parallel with political reforms that meet the demands of the Bahraini people and ensure the respect of human rights.
