The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a report revealing the dire situation facing millions of children in Yemen, who have been forced to leave school as a result of the ongoing conflict now entering its ninth year.
According to the report, one in every four children of primary school age in Yemen does not attend school, representing a significant proportion of children excluded from educational opportunities due to the harsh conditions in the country.
The report highlighted that most of the children who have been excluded from education resort to child labor or domestic work to contribute to their families’ income and ensure their survival, placing them in a difficult position that increases the challenges of reclaiming lost educational opportunities.
The organization confirmed that the total number of displaced people in all regions of Yemen since the escalation of the war has reached around 4.9M people, including 1.3M children, further complicating the educational and social situation in the country.
In the face of these difficult circumstances, UNICEF continues to work on providing support and assistance to children in Yemen by offering educational opportunities and necessary care, and supporting efforts aimed at achieving stability and development in the country.
