Nationwide polio campaign to vaccinate 3.1M children in South Sudan, WHO says

The World Health Organization (WHO) in coordination with the UNICEF and the Sudanese Ministry of Health, launched today a nationwide polio campaign aiming at vaccinating 3.1 million children using the novel oral polio vaccine type 2.

According to WHO, the campaign will target all children under 5 years of age in all the ten states and the three administrative areas of South Sudan.

In South Sudan, it is estimated that 33% of the children have not received vaccination against poliovirus type 2, according to the global health organization.

The country’s immunization coverage has been impacted by population movements and displacement, making it harder to reach the children who need vaccinations the most.
