Work on high-speed train project linking Holy Karbala to Holy Najaf to begin soon, ministry says

The Iraqi Minister of Transportation, Razzaq Al-Saadi, announced that the high-speed train project linking the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf will soon commence, with the capacity to transport around 25,000 passengers per hour.

The minister further explained that “the project will reduce the travel time between the two holy cities by approximately 20 minutes,” and that “there are 4 main stations linking Holy Karbala to Holy Najaf in both directions.”

Al-Saadi mentioned that “the train will be suspended on bridges and will travel at a speed of 240 kilometers per hour,” adding that “the train will transport 25,000 passengers per hour, thus contributing to accommodating the influx of millions of visitors between the two cities throughout the year.”

He noted that “the Ministry of Transportation has conducted thorough studies on the project and laid the groundwork for it,” affirming that “in cooperation with the consulting company, we will finalize the project.”
