Bangladesh Asks India to Curb Former PM Hasina’s Provocative Statements
Bangladesh has formally requested India to prevent ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from making “false and fabricated” statements during her stay in the country, Dawn Newspaper reported. Hasina, who fled to India last year amid violent protests that resulted in over 1,000 deaths, addressed her supporters online, urging them to oppose the interim government, which she accused of unconstitutional power grabs.
In response, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry delivered a protest note to India’s acting high commissioner, expressing “deep concern” over Hasina’s comments. The ministry urged India to take immediate action to stop her from making incendiary statements.
Meanwhile, her remarks lead to protests and violence in Dhaka, resulting in the demolition and arson of the home of Mujibur Rahman, Hasina’s father and Bangladesh’s founding leader. India’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as an “act of vandalism,” emphasizing the historical significance of the site.
