Grand Mosque of Kufa covered in black to commemorate martyrdom of Imam al-Baqir, Muslim ibn Aqil
The Grand Mosque of Kufa is preparing to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein’s ambassador to Kufa, Muslim ibn Aqil (peace be upon them), during the first ten days of the holy month of Dhuʻl-Hijjah.
Muslim ibn Aqil’s martyrdom anniversary coincides with the martyrdom anniversary of Imam al-Baqir, peace be upon them, which increases the importance of the occasion and attracts believers from various provinces of Iraq and elsewhere.
Sheikh Hadi Zanjil, head of the Department of Religious Affairs, explained that “every year, the Division of Hussaini Rituals, affiliated with the Department of Religious Affairs, makes extensive preparations to create a suitable atmosphere for the mourning processions entering the sacred courtyard from Iraqi provinces and even from outside the country. Food, drink, and accommodation are provided for these processions.”
Sheikh Zanjil said that the mosque and the sacred courtyard have been covered in black and banners of mourning have also been placed on the walls to observe this tragedy of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.
