Al-Abbas Holy Shrine unveils the Urban Development Project for Karbala’s Old City
The Al-Abbas Holy Shrine revealed the details of the Urban Development Project for the Old City of Karbala, while it confirmed the start of implementation of the first phase, which includes the construction works of the Umm al-Baneen (peace be upon her) Courtyard on the northern side of the Holy Shrine.
The Head of the Engineering Projects Department at Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, Engineer Diaa Majeed Al-Sayegh, said in a statement, “The project was adopted by the Ministries of Municipalities and Planning, Karbala Province and Urban Planning departments.
He added, “The Holy Shrine’s engineering staffs have started on the first phase of the Urban Development Project for the Old City, which includes the construction works of the Umm al-Baneen (peace be upon her) Courtyard located on the northern side of the al-Abbas Holy Shrine.”
Al-Sayegh indicated that “the first step of the project is to transfer the existing infrastructure, including generators, electric power, and water systems outside the Holy Shrine, to begin clearing the underground to install the pillars and dig the foundations,” noting that “the total area of the project is 20,000 square meters, including the construction of a large basement for women with all services and above it will be an open courtyard containing green spaces for the respected pilgrims.”
And the head of the department continued, “The project also include the construction of a large gate to the Holy Shrine of Aba Al-Fadl Al-Abbas (peace be upon him),” noting that “the other phases will follow in succession once the rest of the real estates are acquired.”
After the Urban Development Project for Karbala’s Old City was approval by the Shia Endowment and the Ministry of Planning, it was transferred to the Iraqi Ardh Al-Quds Company for implementation.
