The Syrian Civil Defence teams have recovered the remains of 10 people from a site believed to contain a mass grave in the al-Filat al-Humr area of Tishreen neighborhood in Aleppo, according to reports.
The discovery brings the number of mass graves identified across Syria since the beginning of 2026 to 25. Specialized teams continue excavation and search operations at the site as efforts continue to determine the fate of missing persons and identify victims.
Available data indicate that the 25 mass graves discovered this year contain the remains of around 220 people across 10 Syrian provinces. Aleppo recorded the highest number of recovered remains, with four mass graves containing the remains of 80 people.
In Damascus countryside, five mass graves were discovered containing 41 victims, including three women and five children. Four graves in Deir Ezzor contained the remains of 22 people, while four sites in Homs included the remains of 21 victims, among them five children and one woman.
Other discoveries included two mass graves in Daraa containing 13 remains, one in Damascus with 11 victims, one in Raqqa with 10 victims, one in Hasakah with nine victims, one in Idlib with seven victims, and two in Hama containing six remains.
The continued discovery of mass graves has renewed attention on the fate of thousands of people who went missing during Syria’s years of conflict. Human rights organizations and local authorities have stressed the importance of continuing searches, identifying victims, documenting the circumstances of their deaths, and providing answers to their families.
