Daily session of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi with scholars, believers in the holy city of Qom

During the daily scientific session of the Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, on the morning of Wednesday 20 Dhul-Hijjah 1443 (20/7/2022), one of the attendees asked:

“Is it permissible to use musical instruments in the mourning of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him?”

His Eminence answered:

The rituals and mourning of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), from the common point of view, are about glorifying and praising our master Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him) and they are completely permissible. However, there is only one exception, which is that they are free of anything forbidden. Therefore, if the musical instruments are forbidden, it is not permissible to use them in Imam Hussein’s mourning. However, if the instruments used are not forbidden, then there is no problem in using them in the mourning.
