Myanmar: Airstrikes Kill 15 Civilians, Including a Newborn and Three Students, Targeting Maternity Clinic and School

At least 15 civilians, including a one-week-old baby and three students, were killed and dozens injured in military airstrikes across Myanmar on October 31 and November 1, 2026. The attacks targeted several locations, including a maternity clinic in Rakhine State and a school in Kayah State.
According to Reuters, the strikes in western Rakhine killed at least 12 people and injured 32 others. Among the victims was a newborn girl who died when the building housing the temporary maternity clinic collapsed. In a separate attack on a school in Loikaw, three students were killed and five others injured.
The attacks have intensified concerns over the safety of civilians and the targeting of healthcare and educational facilities amid Myanmar’s ongoing conflict, which began following the February 2021 military coup. UN investigators have previously accused the military of deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, while the military maintains that its operations target armed groups.
