Najaf: “Green Kufa” Project Launched in Schools to Expand Green Spaces, Improve Urban Environment
———————————
The Secretariat of the Great Mosque of Kufa has launched the first phase of its “Green Kufa” project, an initiative aimed at expanding green spaces and improving environmental conditions across the city of Kufa in Najaf Governorate.
The initial phase, implemented in cooperation with the Kufa Directorate of Education, involves preparing and distributing seedlings and plants to a number of schools throughout the city. The initiative seeks to improve school environments while promoting tree planting and environmental awareness among younger generations.
The mosque’s secretariat said that schools were selected as the starting point because of their important role in raising environmental awareness and encouraging students to take part in planting and caring for trees under the supervision of educational staff. The initiative is also intended to foster a sense of responsibility for protecting green spaces and encourage environmentally responsible practices within schools, families and the wider community.
According to the project plan, subsequent phases will extend tree planting to streets, public squares and central medians across Kufa. These activities will be accompanied by regular maintenance and monitoring to help ensure the survival and long-term sustainability of the plants.
The Secretariat of the Great Mosque of Kufa will oversee the project in coordination with relevant authorities, as part of broader efforts to improve the city’s urban landscape, expand its green coverage and promote environmental sustainability.
