The Iraqi holy city of Najaf witnessed the arrival of millions of mourners from across Iraq and abroad on Saturday to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her) at the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him). The occasion was marked by an atmosphere of grief and mourning.

Among those attending was Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir al-Najafi, who participated in the annual mourning gathering held at the beginning of a procession departing from his office to commemorate the tragedy of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her). Scholars, religious dignitaries and students of the Hawza also joined the large crowds gathered at the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) to offer condolences on the occasion.

According to a correspondent for the Shia Waves Agency, a Fatimid commemorative gathering held before the mourning assemblies drew a large turnout, with participants expressing their devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and remembering the tragedy that befell the household of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family).

The correspondent reported that a large crowd accompanied Grand Ayatollah al-Najafi in a mourning procession toward the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), chanting slogans expressing their grief and renewing their allegiance to Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her).
