The World Halal Authority (WHA), headquartered in Milan, Italy, has received the “Excellence in Innovation for European Halal Certification and Export Assurance” award at the Indonesia Halal Awards 2026. The recognition highlights the authority’s work in developing halal certification systems and strengthening international standards for halal assurance.
The award was presented at a ceremony organized by Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), held alongside the fifth International Halal Forum (H20) at the Trans Hotel in Jakarta. The event brought attention to international cooperation in halal certification and efforts to improve verification procedures for products seeking to meet recognized halal requirements.
The award also highlights the role of specialized European certification bodies in developing accreditation and oversight systems and helping exporters meet the requirements of markets where halal certification is required. Such efforts can support confidence in halal products and facilitate their movement across international markets.
Fertiana Santi, BPJPH’s director of partnerships and cooperation and a member of the judging panel, said the international category of the 2026 awards recognizes organizations involved in cross-border halal certification that demonstrate innovative operating models and make tangible contributions to the global halal ecosystem.
Santi explained that the selection criteria include candidates’ international activities, the distinctiveness of their operating models and their contributions to strengthening halal systems and improving certification and product-assurance services.
