Pakistani Shia Leaders Call for Protection of Pilgrims’ Religious Rights in 2027 Hajj Arrangements

Pakistani Shia leaders have called on the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to review the arrangements for the 2027 private Hajj program.
Allama Dr. Muhammad Hussain Akbar, head of the Jaafari Umrah and Ziyarat Association of Pakistan, emphasized that Shia pilgrims have specific religious and jurisprudential requirements related to performing Hajj rituals. He called for enabling pilgrims to select an approved Hajj organizer familiar with their religious practices and capable of providing the necessary guidance and services during their journey.
Allama Akbar explained that the booking process should allow pilgrims and organizers to reach clear agreements regarding required services and religious arrangements. He warned that completing bookings without giving pilgrims the option to choose a suitable organizer could create difficulties later, including challenges related to accommodation arrangements, group organization, and access to religious guidance.
He stressed that these demands do not represent a request for special treatment or preferential arrangements, but rather reflect the fundamental right to religious freedom and the ability of pilgrims to perform their sacred duties according to their beliefs and jurisprudential principles.
The Shia leader also cautioned that the current system could create complications for Shia pilgrims if they are unable to select an appropriate organizer during the initial booking stage. He noted that such issues could also place additional administrative and supervisory burdens on the relevant ministry authorities.
The Jaafari Umrah and Ziyarat Association called on the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to urgently review the procedures adopted for the 2027 private Hajj program and introduce the necessary administrative and technical adjustments to safeguard the religious rights, dignity, and interests of all Pakistani pilgrims.
