Escalation of Anti-Muslim Hatred in London: Reports Surpass Annual Total in Just Six Months
Recent data indicates an alarming rise in incidents of hatred and prejudice against Muslims in the British capital, London. The number of reported incidents during the first half of the current year has exceeded the total reported throughout 2023. According to data from the organization “Tell MAMA,” which specializes in monitoring anti-Muslim hatred, there were 1,031 reports from January to the end of June 2026, compared to 1,028 reports for the entire year of 2023.
The organization noted that annual numbers have surged nearly six-fold in recent years, with reports increasing from 313 cases in 2021 to 818 cases in 2022, continuing to rise to a record level of 1,909 cases during 2025. The organization’s director, Iman Atta, described the increase as worrisome, warning that repeated targeting and elevated levels of anger against Muslims directly affect victims’ sense of personal safety. She called for effective strategies to combat extremism and hate speech.
“Tell MAMA” affirmed that the figures reflect a continuing rise in anti-Muslim hatred, emphasizing that each report represents an individual who may feel unsafe due to their religious affiliation.
Meanwhile, the British Metropolitan Police have stated they will not tolerate attacks targeting Muslims, emphasizing that combating hate crimes in all forms remains a priority. They highlighted a 57% increase in positive outcomes from their measures, including arrests and charges related to anti-Muslim hate crimes, over the past twelve months.
A spokesperson for the Mayor of London confirmed that anti-Muslim hatred “has no place” in the capital, describing the increase in attacks against Muslims in London and other parts of Britain as unacceptable and affirming the Mayor’s support for a stringent approach in handling these crimes.
