Australia Urged to Take Further Action Against Islamophobia Following Landmark Report
————————————————–
A new report on Islamophobia in Australia has called for stronger and long-term measures to address discrimination against Muslim communities and tackle the causes of anti-Muslim prejudice.

Australia’s Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, Aftab Malik, released the report on Saturday, urging the federal government to take Islamophobia and racism more seriously and work with Muslim communities to achieve lasting change.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government had accepted 35 of the report’s 54 recommendations, emphasizing that hatred and discrimination against Muslims have no place in Australian society.

Malik said the report’s release marks the beginning of a broader effort to confront Islamophobia, calling for continued engagement, trust-building and dialogue between the government and Muslim communities.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke also warned that Islamophobic incidents remain significantly under-reported, describing the issue as widespread and harmful. He said Australia has seen an increase in attacks and abuse targeting Muslim Australians and stressed the need for effective action.
