Salam Mosque Collapses During Reconstruction in Man

The Muslim community of Petit Gbapleu, in the commune of Man, has been left shocked after the Salam Mosque collapsed on Friday, July 4, 2026, at around 8 a.m.

According to fratmat.info, the mosque was undergoing reconstruction after the old building had been demolished because it had become too small for worshippers. The cause of the sudden collapse remains unknown.

Witnesses said worshippers had performed the dawn prayer inside the building at around 5 a.m. without noticing any warning signs. A community meeting was also reportedly held there before the incident. A few hours later, the structure collapsed, causing deep concern among local residents.

People living nearby quickly arrived at the scene after being alerted and witnessed the extent of the damage.

The mosque is under the responsibility of Sheikh Hassane Touré, the main imam and president of Codiss Tonkpi. Its reconstruction had received support from several local authorities.

An investigation has been opened to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
