The 14th Arbaeen Walk Festival began on Monday morning under the slogan “From the Sea to the Sacrifice” in the Ras al-Bisha area, south of Basra province.

The festival was held at Iraq’s southernmost point in Ras al-Bisha, part of Al-Faw district, with the participation of scholars, religious figures, believers, and pilgrims heading toward the shrine of the Master of Martyrs, Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in the holy city of Karbala.

The event included various religious and mourning activities, including speeches on the Arbaeen pilgrimage, its merits, rewards, and importance, as well as poems expressing love and devotion for Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.

The festival is considered an official announcement of the start of the Arbaeen walking pilgrimage toward Karbala from different Iraqi provinces and cities.

The first groups of walking pilgrims have already begun their journey from Ras al-Bisha, the farthest point in southern Iraq, earlier than usual this year in order to reach holy Karbala ahead of the millions-strong Arbaeen pilgrimage and take part in serving visitors.

Security forces have prepared detailed plans to secure the routes used by pilgrims heading to Karbala, while Husseini service processions have spread along the roads from Iraq’s southernmost point and across various cities to provide services to the pilgrims.
