Police in India’s Uttar Pradesh state arrested three Muslim women after conducting a raid on their home over allegations of cooking beef, while forensic testing to confirm the type of meat recovered remained pending.

According to police, officers carried out the operation in Kushambe district after receiving information alleging that beef was being prepared at the residence.

Authorities said that four men fled when security personnel arrived, while three women identified as Shama Parveen, Shaista, and Fatima were taken into custody.

Police reported seizing approximately one kilogram of cooked meat from a pot and an additional kilogram of raw meat. Officials stated that samples had been sent to a forensic laboratory to determine whether the meat was beef.

Local media reported that, during questioning, the women said the meat had been brought by family members from outside the area. Police noted that laboratory results had not yet been released and that the investigation remained ongoing.

Despite awaiting forensic confirmation, authorities registered a case under Uttar Pradesh’s cow slaughter prevention law and launched efforts to locate additional individuals, including relatives and another local resident.

The case reveals extreme religious-based restrictions faced not only by Muslims but also other sects living in India.
