Afghan Journalists Center Urges Taliban to Release Tamaddon TV Employees, Reopen Channel Headquarters

The Afghan Journalists Center has called on the Taliban to immediately release two employees of Tamaddon TV, reopen the channel’s headquarters, and allow it to resume its media work freely and without threats or prosecution.
The call came after Tamaddon TV’s management announced that its director and one of its employees had been arrested six days earlier on orders from the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice and were being held in solitary confinement.
In a statement, the Afghan Journalists Center condemned the arrests and stressed the need to respect media freedom. It also called for the channel’s staff to be allowed to continue their professional duties without pressure or arbitrary measures.
Citing a source inside the media organization, the center said the arrests followed the channel’s publication of a report about a raid carried out by Taliban Ministry of Justice forces on its headquarters.
Taliban Ministry of Justice forces had earlier stormed Tamaddon TV’s office in Kabul, halted its broadcasts, and closed its offices, a move that drew criticism from press freedom organizations.
Tamaddon TV’s management said the authorities justified the closure by claiming that the building was located on government land. However, the case remains before a special Taliban court, and no final ruling has been issued.
The development comes amid growing concerns over media freedom in Afghanistan and continuing restrictions on media outlets and journalists since the Taliban returned to power.
