UN Offers Condolences to Iraqi People Over Passing of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayyad

The United Nations has offered its condolences over the passing of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayyad, expressing sympathy to the religious authorities and the Iraqi people on this painful loss.

In a statement, the UN extended its “deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the religious authorities in Iraq and to the honorable Iraqi people on the passing of Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayyad,” praising his religious and scholarly status as well as his intellectual and humanitarian legacy.

The statement added that the United Nations hopes the late religious authority’s legacy of wisdom and moderation will inspire future generations, while praying that his family and loved ones be granted patience and solace.

Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayyad passed away last Thursday in a hospital in Baghdad after a recent illness, at the age of 96. He spent most of his life serving Islam and the school of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.
