Olga Mokrova, the United Nations’ senior security adviser in Iraq, expressed her deep impression during a visit to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in Karbala, describing the Imam as a source of inspiration for both Muslims and non-Muslims.

Mokrova visited Karbala as part of efforts to explore channels of cooperation with the United Nations and facilitate the organization’s programs and projects in the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf. During her visit, she met Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalaei, representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, at the site where he performs prayers inside the Imam Hussein Shrine, while he was attending to citizens’ needs and providing assistance.

Speaking about her visit, Mokrova said she was honored to visit the shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, noting that his name is a source of inspiration for Muslims and Iraqis, as well as Christians, including herself.

Reflecting on her experience inside the shrine, the UN official said she believed it was a place where people’s prayers and appeals could reach God Almighty “as quickly as possible,” adding that those seeking to supplicate to God should pray at the site.
