Morocco Publishes First Amazigh Edition of Meanings of Quran in Tachelhit

Morocco’s Mohammed VI Foundation for the Publication of the Holy Quran has released the first Amazigh-language edition of the meanings of the Holy Quran in Tachelhit, in a move aimed at making the meanings of the Quran more accessible to Amazigh-speaking communities.

The publication is the result of several years of preparation, review and proofreading, carried out under the supervision of a specialized scientific committee comprising scholars and researchers in Quranic and linguistic studies.

According to the project organizers, the work took into account the specific nature and objectives of the Quranic text, while seeking to ensure linguistic accuracy and clarity in Amazigh. The edition is intended to enable Tachelhit speakers to read and understand the meanings of Quranic verses in their own language.

The project involved more than a direct translation from Arabic into Amazigh, incorporating successive stages of drafting, academic review, scholarly assessment and proofreading. The process was designed to ensure that the final edition meets established standards for translating the meanings of the Holy Quran.

The publication also carries cultural and linguistic significance in Morocco, where Amazigh, in its various linguistic expressions, represents an important component of the country’s linguistic and cultural identity.

The new edition is expected to broaden access to the meanings of the Quran among Tachelhit speakers and provide them with an institutionally produced reference prepared under the supervision of specialists in Islamic and linguistic studies.

The release forms part of broader efforts to serve the Quran and make its meanings accessible to speakers of different languages and linguistic varieties, while potentially paving the way for further academic and linguistic projects in Quranic studies in Morocco.
