The Finnish Ambassador to Iraq, Antti Potkonen, underscored the deep historical ties between Iraq and Finland, noting that their relationship spans centuries and is marked by cooperation and goodwill. He expressed hope for continued strengthening of these relations in the future.

The remarks came during the ambassador’s visit to the Imam Hussein Shrine in Karbala, where he attended the 16th anniversary celebration of the Holy Shrine Museum, held in conjunction with International Museum Day.

Speaking to the press, Ambassador Potkonen said he felt honored to visit the museum, describing the exhibits as “beautiful and historically valuable treasures,” reflecting Iraq’s rich cultural and civilizational heritage.

The anniversary event was attended by officials, cultural figures, and diplomats, highlighting Karbala’s religious, historical, and cultural legacy and the museum’s preserved artifacts.

Over the years, the shrine has welcomed several ambassadors from countries including Italy, Saudi Arabia, France, Venezuela, and Germany, who have visited to engage with religious authorities, tour the holy sites, and express support for Karbala’s spiritual and cultural significance.
