A prominent religious figure serving at the Sayyida Zaynab Shrine (peace be upon her) was martyred in a targeted attack in the Syrian capital’s countryside, authorities and local sources confirmed.
Sayyid Farhan Hassan al-Mansour, Imam and preacher at the revered shrine of Sayyida Zaynab (peace be upon her), was martyred on Friday, May 1, after his vehicle was struck by a grenade in the Fatimiyah area near Damascus. The attack reportedly occurred shortly after he left the shrine.
According to initial reports cited by local media including Syrian Arab News Agency and regional outlets, the explosion took place near a main street close to religious sites and hotels frequented by visitors. At least one other civilian was reported injured.
Security forces were quickly deployed to the area, and the Syrian Interior Ministry announced the launch of an investigation to identify those responsible. Officials said the attack appeared aimed at destabilizing one of the most significant religious districts in the capital.
Al-Mansour, originally from Deir ez-Zor, was widely known for his moderate religious discourse, promoting coexistence and rejecting sectarian division. He had served for decades as a teacher in religious seminaries and a preacher, contributing to educational and community initiatives.
