——————————-
The Madrid City Council has approved funding to establish a dedicated Islamic cemetery in the Carabanchel district in the southwest of the Spanish capital, following years of requests from the local Muslim community. The decision has been described as a significant legal and social step toward ensuring equal access to burial facilities that meet religious requirements.

According to Aluka News Agency, the project will begin with the construction of 150 Islamic graves in its first phase. In later stages, the cemetery’s capacity is expected to expand to approximately 2,500 graves to meet long-term community needs.

The approved plan also includes a designated facility for the ritual washing of the deceased, in accordance with Islamic practices. The project is expected to be implemented as part of the city’s upcoming budget cycle.
