Five Dead in Police Vehicle Attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

At least five people were reported killed on Tuesday after a police vehicle came under attack in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Khaama Press reported.

The assault took place in the Karak district, according to security officials cited by Dawn. Specific details about how the attack was carried out have not been released.

No group has claimed responsibility, but the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), remains active in the region. The attack comes just days after the Pakistan Army reported killing nine TTP militants during operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Militant violence in Pakistan has escalated in recent months, with Islamabad accusing the Afghan Taliban of allowing TTP fighters to operate from Afghanistan territory, a claim Kabul has consistently denied.

Tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan have been heightened by cross-border attacks, security disputes, and allegations that TTP fighters are using Afghanistan safe havens to plan operations against Pakistan.

Efforts to broker peace between Pakistan and the TTP have repeatedly failed, despite negotiations held in Doha, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Analysts say these talks collapsed due to deep mistrust and disagreements over ceasefires and the disarmament of militant fighters.
