Deadly Crash on Herat–Kandahar Highway Leaves 10 Dead
…………
At least ten people were killed and a dozen others injured in a traffic accident on the Herat–Kandahar highway late Saturday, according to local Taliban police officials, Amu TV reported. The collision occurred in Zawol district when a 302 passenger bus heading toward Kandahar struck a minivan traveling from Daikundi toward Herat. Authorities said women and children were among the casualties.
Yar Mohammad Sadiq, the administrative deputy of the Taliban police headquarters in Zawol, confirmed that several of the injured were transported to Shindand district hospital, while others — along with the bodies of the deceased — were moved to Herat Regional Hospital.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Afghan officials frequently cite deteriorating roads and driver negligence as leading contributors to fatal traffic accidents nationwide. According to the World Health Organization, more than 4,700 people die each year in road-related incidents in Afghanistan.
