Hong Kong to Get First Halal-Certified Restaurants Under Q-Mark Scheme by Year-End
————————————-
Hong Kong is set to introduce its first restaurants officially certified as Halal under the local Q-Mark scheme by the end of the year, a move aimed at enhancing consumer confidence and attracting more Muslim visitors, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
The new initiative involves the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), which operates the Q-Mark certification, partnering with the Hong Kong Islamic Trust Fund to ensure that certified premises strictly comply with Islamic dietary laws. The certification will cover all aspects of food preparation, handling, and storage.
The new certification comes as Muslim visitors are expected to increasingly travel to Hong Kong, and local Muslim residents seek clearer dining options. The goal is to provide a reliable, locally recognized standard that consumers, particularly those from Muslim-majority countries, can trust.
The initial phase of the partnership will focus on certifying a few restaurants by the end of the year, with plans to gradually expand the scheme to more food and beverage outlets across the city.
