Fighting around the displaced persons camp and neighborhoods of el-Fasher in western Sudan has killed at least 53 civilians and wounded over 60 within three days, Arab News reported quoting the UN human rights chief. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out drone and artillery strikes in Abu Shouk, Daraja Oula, and the el-Fasher camp, killing 46 people. Among the dead, more than a dozen died when shelling struck one of the last functioning hospitals and a nearby mosque where civilians were sheltering.

Additionally, at least seven people were summarily executed during RSF ground raids, reportedly motivated by ethnic targeting. Both the RSF and Sudanese military face allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity under investigation by the International Criminal Court.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk condemned the attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, urging UN member states to take urgent action to protect people in el-Fasher and Darfur.

Sudan’s conflict, ongoing since 2023, has killed over 40,000 and displaced more than 14 million. El-Fasher remains under siege with 260,000 civilians trapped, while 600,000 displaced people have fled to nearby Tawila, where humanitarian aid remains critically underfunded.
