Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Affirms Holy Prophet and Sayyida Masoumah Died as Martyrs

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husseini Shirazi affirmed that both the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) and Sayyida Fatimah al-Masoumah (peace be upon her) died as martyrs.

The statement was made during his daily scholarly session held on Tuesday, the seventh of Rabi’ al-Thani, 1447 AH, where his Eminence addressed various jurisprudential questions from attendees.

Regarding the manner of the Holy Prophet’s passing, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated emphatically: “The Prophet of God (peace be upon him and his pure family) was certainly martyred, and sound narrations (rawāyāt ṣaḥīḥah) exist in this regard.”

He then addressed Sayyida Masoumah (peace be upon her), saying: “Regarding Sayyida Masoumah (peace be upon her), some scholars have also stated that she was martyred, meaning that [Caliph] Ma’mun sent an individual to Qom who gave her poisoned food.”
