UNAMA: Taliban Deploy Forces to Restrict Women’s Work in UN Offices
————————————
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported that the Taliban has stationed security forces at the entrances of UN offices in Kabul, Herat, and Mazar-i-Sharif to enforce restrictions on female staff, Shia Waves Persian reported.

According to UNAMA, this move follows repeated verbal and written warnings and has now resulted in a de facto ban on women entering or working in these offices. The mission described the Taliban’s action as a violation of prior agreements and a serious threat to Afghan women’s rights.

As a direct consequence of the restrictions, UN humanitarian assistance for returning migrants has been suspended, further deepening the crisis for vulnerable populations. In addition, women aid workers have been barred from traveling to earthquake-affected regions, limiting the delivery of vital relief.

UNAMA has expressed grave concern, warning that the Taliban’s escalating curbs on women’s participation in humanitarian and professional spheres could severely undermine both aid operations and Afghanistan’s broader recovery.
