African Climate Summit 2 Calls for “Investment Justice” and New Roadmap
——————————-
The second Africa Climate Summit concluded with the adoption of the Addis Ababa Declaration, a new roadmap designed to transform the continent into a global hub for renewable energy and climate solutions. According to a report from the Anadolu Agency, African leaders at the summit emphasized that the continent is not a victim of the climate crisis but rather a source of solutions.

The Addis Ababa Declaration is built on three main pillars: accelerating the development of renewable energy, forming a coalition of Africa’s critical mineral producers to ensure fair value, and protecting natural heritage through reforestation. Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie stated that the declaration is not just a document but a plan for immediate and measurable action.

Bankole Adeoye, the African Union commissioner, underscored that the summit shifted Africa’s climate agenda “from crisis to opportunity, and from aid to investment.” He asserted that the continent’s demands for climate finance are not for charity but for “equity and justice.” The declaration is intended to help Africa present a united front at the upcoming COP30 climate talks.
