Scientists Warn of Risks from “Mirror Life” Development
—————————
A group of U.S. scientists has raised concerns about the potential dangers and consequences of developing “mirror life,” also known as “reflected life.”

According to Shiite Waves Persian, citing Foreign Affairs, mirror life refers to artificial organisms whose molecular structures are the reverse of natural life forms—essentially a mirrored chemical and biological composition.

In natural organisms, molecules are arranged in a specific way that sustains life. In mirror life, however, this arrangement is inverted, making these organisms resistant to conventional biological processes and resulting in different interactions with their environment.

Researchers estimate that creating the first cell of such organisms could take 10 to 30 years. They suggest that mirror life could have applications in medicine and studies of the origins of life.

Nevertheless, the many unknowns in this field raise significant concerns about potential threats to human biosecurity.
