UN Warns of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The United Nations has warned that without an urgent and unrestricted flow of aid, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza could deteriorate further, UN website reported. According to UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, ongoing delays, bottlenecks, and interference at aid delivery points are undermining efforts to get supplies to those in need.

Dujarric stated that the UN and its partners must be allowed to deliver aid “at scale.” The dire situation is underscored by recent figures from the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah, which treated over 4,500 patients with injuries sustained while trying to access food aid. Many were hurt in crowd crushes or subjected to violence and theft.

The UN is also highlighting a starvation crisis, with increasing deaths, particularly among children. Hospitals are struggling with a rise in malnutrition cases and a lack of beds. The crisis is compounded by a five-month shortage of cooking gas, forcing people to use waste and scrap wood as fuel, which poses health and environmental risks.

The UN reiterated its call for the protection of civilians in the event of expanded military operations in Gaza City and for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
