Najaf International Airport reported an exceptional increase in air traffic during the Arbaeen pilgrimage season, with 633 flights recorded between the first and 13th of the Islamic month of Safar. Passenger numbers exceeded 150,000 during this period, according to an airport statement.
Data from the airport indicated that 90,582 passengers arrived in Najaf, while 69,300 departed over the same timeframe. Authorities said the airport operated at full capacity to accommodate the surge of visitors arriving from various countries to participate in the religious occasion.
The airport administration emphasized Najaf’s pivotal role as a major gateway for pilgrims traveling to Karbala for the Arbaeen commemoration. It also affirmed that preparations remain in place to ensure smooth travel operations and to provide quality services for travelers throughout the remainder of the pilgrimage period.
