UNICEF and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) have agreed on a new £1.5 million funding arrangement to ensure the ongoing delivery of vital water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to over 100,000 Syrian refugees living in the Za’atari and Azraq camps, the organization’s website reported.

Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF Representative in Jordan, stated, “With this generous support from the UK Government, we can continue to provide clean water and sanitation facilities to thousands of Syrian families. These services are essential for the health, dignity, and wellbeing of Syrian children and their families living in the camps. We deeply appreciate FCDO’s sustained partnership in Jordan over the years.”

H.E. Philip Hall, British Ambassador to Jordan, added, “Access to water is a basic necessity, and this collaboration highlights the UK’s commitment to improving the lives of refugees in Jordan.”

This funding will support the operation and maintenance of centralized water supply and wastewater systems in both camps from July 2025 through March 2026. The contribution comes at a crucial moment as humanitarian efforts in Jordan face major funding gaps despite ongoing urgent needs.
