Bahrain: Investigations with a number of citizens to prevent them from participating in Ashura ceremonies

Bahraini sources reported that the authorities summoned a large number of citizens to the Criminal Investigation Center for the purpose of intimidating them and preventing them from participating in this year’s Ashura ceremony.
According to the sources, the summons included a large number of detainees released under the so-called alternative penal law system, and the ruling authorities are seeking to restrict the holding of Hussaini rituals this year, citing precautions to prevent the Coronavirus, but at the same time they turn a blind eye to gatherings and celebrations taking place in the country.
Citizens confirmed their intention to perform rituals this year, while adhering to health rules such as wearing masks and observing the rules of social distancing.
It is noteworthy that the American Religious Freedom Committee proudly affirmed in its report on religious freedom in the world that the ruling authorities in Bahrain practice policies of sectarian discrimination against the Bahraini majority.
