China incorporates AI into undergraduate studies

China’s Education Ministry has announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into undergraduate studies by introducing 29 new academic majors, Anadolu Agency reported. These new programs will be included in this year’s college entrance examinations, according to an official statement cited by Global Times.

The newly added majors aim to align with market demands, technological advancements, and national development strategies. They cover emerging fields such as AI, low-altitude economy, carbon neutrality science and engineering, marine science and technology, and healthcare security.

To keep pace with cutting-edge technology, the curriculum now includes intelligent molecular engineering, medical devices and equipment engineering, and spatiotemporal information engineering. Market-driven programs like international cruise management and aviation sports have also been introduced to meet industry needs.

Additionally, new majors focusing on AI’s role in economic and social progress—such as AI education, intelligent audiovisual engineering, and digital drama—have been established to support China’s strategic development goals.
