Iraq’s ambassador to Syria, Yassin Sharif Al-Hujami, visited the holy shrine of Sayyida Zaynab (peace be upon her) in the Damascus countryside, where he reviewed the site’s security and service conditions.
According to a statement from the administration of the holy shrine, Al-Hujami expressed strong interest in strengthening ties between Iraq and Syria through religious tourism. He stated that he would initiate discussions with relevant authorities in Iraq to restore religious visits between the two countries to their previous levels as soon as possible.
The visit comes amid a relative improvement in the security situation surrounding Syria’s religious sites, creating an opportunity for diplomatic efforts to revive pilgrimages. Prior to the Syrian conflict, these visits attracted large numbers of Iraqi pilgrims.
