France: One Killed, Five Injured in Shooting Near Paris Amid Suspected Anti-Muslim Motive

One person was killed and five others, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured in a shooting in the Paris suburbs on Friday. French officials described the incident as a suspected terrorist attack and said investigators were examining possible racist and anti-Muslim motives.
The shootings occurred in Trappes and La Verrière, in the Yvelines department, where a 39-year-old suspect allegedly opened fire at several locations, including a children’s playground, a petrol station and a medical centre. Three of the injured were reported to be in serious condition. Security forces arrested the suspect shortly after the attacks, according to French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.
Nuñez said authorities were treating the incident as a terrorist attack and investigating whether Muslims had been specifically targeted. The local mayor also described the shootings as a suspected racially motivated terrorist act that may have been driven by anti-Muslim sentiment, adding that the attacker appeared to have intended to carry out a mass killing.
Authorities have not released further details about the suspect’s identity or background. Investigations into the motive and circumstances of the shootings are ongoing, and the suspected anti-Muslim motivation has not been definitively confirmed.
