UN: 142,000 displaced in Gaza in one week amid renewed Israeli bombardment

The United Nations reported Wednesday that renewed Israeli military operations in Gaza have displaced 142,000 people within a week, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric highlighted that nearly 90% of Gaza’s population has experienced displacement at least once since the conflict began on October 7, 2023.
He warned that available shelter is rapidly diminishing, with current evacuation orders affecting approximately 17% of the territory. Displaced families not only lose their homes but also struggle to access basic necessities such as food, clean water, and medical care, Dujarric noted.
Humanitarian organizations have raised concerns over dwindling supplies, including fuel for ambulances and bakeries, as well as essential medical stocks. The UN also expressed alarm over ongoing displacement orders and heavy bombardments, stating that restrictions on aid are worsening conditions for Gaza’s more than two million residents.
