US Conducts Strikes Against Daesh in Somalia

The United States, in coordination with the Somali government, conducted air strikes on Daesh targets in the Golis mountains of Puntland, Somalia, Rudaw reported. While Daesh has a smaller presence in Somalia compared to Al-Shabab, experts have noted an increase in its activity. The strikes, carried out by US African Command (AFRICOM) on Tuesday night, reportedly resulted in multiple Daesh fighters being killed, with no civilian casualties reported.

The operation is part of a broader counter-terrorism initiative by local forces in the Al-Miskeed mountain range. Puntland Defense Forces have been active against Daesh since December, as the group has established a foothold in the region. This follows previous US strikes in February that reportedly eliminated key Daesh figures. Puntland authorities have not commented on the recent strikes.
