US airstrikes in Yemen kill 53, injure over 100

At least 53 people, including five women and two children, were killed in overnight US airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and other areas, according to the Houthi-run Health Ministry. More than 100 people were reported injured.

The strikes, which began around midnight on Sunday, targeted multiple locations, including the Houthi stronghold of Saada. The US military stated the attacks were in response to recent assaults on international shipping in the Red Sea.

National Security Adviser Michael Waltz claimed several Houthi leaders were killed, though no details were provided. Meanwhile, the Houthis vowed retaliation, launching 11 drones and at least one missile at a US carrier strike group.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has recorded the displacement of 2,022 people in Yemen since the start of 2025. Most displacements occurred in Marib (1,224 people), followed by Hodeidah, Taiz, Lahj, and Al-Dhalea. From February 16-22, 138 people were displaced, a 68% drop from the previous week.

Security threats caused 61% of displacements, while economic hardship drove the rest. IOM reported that 52% of displaced families need shelter, 13% require food, and 22% lack financial support. The organization also identified 37 additional displaced families, adding them to the year’s total.
