Over 1,380 Alawite civilians killed in Syria’s coastal violence, monitor reports

At least 1,383 civilians, the majority from the Alawite community, have been killed in violence in western Syria’s coastal region since March 6, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The watchdog released the updated death toll on Wednesday, warning that the number could rise as documentation continues.

The victims were executed by security forces and allied militias, with the deadliest incidents occurring on March 7 and 8. The Observatory emphasized that the killings were systematic and concentrated in specific areas.

The situation has drawn international concern, with human rights organizations urging an independent investigation into the reported executions. The Syrian government has not publicly commented on the allegations.

This latest surge in violence follows a series of deadly attacks and reprisals in the region, further deepening sectarian tensions in a war that has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
