155 Hostages Freed in Pakistan Train Siege; 27 Militants Killed

In a dramatic security operation, Pakistani forces successfully freed 155 hostages and killed 27 suspected militants following an attack by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) on the Jaffar Express train in the Bolan district, Anadolu Agency reported. The ambush occurred on Tuesday, March 11, when militants reportedly took 214 passengers hostage in a remote area of Balochistan. The BLA stated they killed at least 20 soldiers.
The operation, ongoing for a second day, has been marked by caution as militants armed with explosive-laden jackets have positioned themselves near the hostages. While security forces confirmed the release of the majority, unconfirmed reports indicate that at least 10 passengers, including the train driver, may have died during the attack.
The BLA has a history of targeting security forces and civilians, advocating for Balochistan’s independence since its incorporation into Pakistan in 1947. Authorities continue to work diligently to ensure the safe release of the remaining passengers.
