Israel Strikes Hezbollah Positions in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli army announced on Friday airstrikes targeting Hezbollah military positions in southern Lebanon, Khaama Press reported. This operation aimed to dismantle infrastructure associated with the Iranian-backed group, despite a ceasefire agreement established on November 27, 2024, following two months of intense conflict.
The ceasefire required Israel to withdraw from five positions in Lebanon, a commitment that remains unfulfilled. Hezbollah was also mandated to retreat north of the Litani River. The Israeli military reported that the strikes destroyed sites where weapons and rocket launchers were stored, labeling them a significant threat to Israeli security.
Lebanon’s official news agency confirmed the attacks, emphasizing their focus on Hezbollah’s strongholds. Tensions have escalated since direct clashes began alongside the Gaza war, resulting in the deaths of several high-ranking Hezbollah leaders. As both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the truce, the international community remains alert to the potential for further conflict in the region.
