Indonesia to Issue Visas for Palestinian Students Affected by Gaza Conflict

Indonesia is set to issue new visas for Palestinian students who received scholarships but were unable to attend classes due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Anadolu Agency reported. Many students faced expired visas as travel restrictions intensified amid the war between Israel and Hamas, according to the Jakarta Globe.

Coordinating Minister for Human Rights, Immigration, Correctional, and Legal Affairs Yusril Ihza Mahendra announced that the government would facilitate the students’ arrival by either issuing new visas or extending existing ones promptly. This decision came after a meeting with Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair Al-Shun, who raised concerns about the students’ situation.

During their discussion, Yusril also highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestine’s bid for full UN membership and mentioned that an Indonesia-funded hospital in Palestine remains inoperable due to damage from the ongoing conflict. Since January, a cease-fire and prisoner exchange agreement has been in effect, amid significant casualties in Gaza, particularly among women and children.
